An impressive 40 cm tall Shigaraki flower vase crafted by Minagawa Takashi. The vase features a square base and a slightly convex shape. From the top to the bottom, long streams of molten ash glaze gracefully flow, creating a beautiful and dynamic effect. One of the many modern features of this vase is its rather flat mouth with a lip drawn inside the vase. This piece showcases the powerful yet delicate nature of traditional Shigaraki pottery, combined with a modern sensibility. It exemplifies Minagawa Takashi's exceptional skill and artistic expression.
Takashi was born in Shigaraki in 1930 and was raised among the many kilns in the valley. He began working in pottery in 1945 and apprenticed under Komori Shōan (1901-1989) in 1970. Takashi uses both climbing and subterranean kilns to such an extent that no one is said to be able to approach his kiln effects. In 1973, he built the "Tsuchi no Ko" (lit. "Child of the Clay") kiln. His work has been exhibited in Japan’s top galleries and in countless group and solo shows in Tōkyō, Osaka, Hiroshima, Kyōto, Nagoya, Niigata, Kokura, and other locations.
